Mixed Use : Medan Centre Point
March 2013
PTI Architects continues to design and support developers in their vision to create mixed-use developments that enhance the lifestyle, business and tourism potential of fast-growing cities such as Medan. One such project is the Medan Centre Point, a large mixed-used development in the city’s prime area. PTI Architects was commissioned to provide full design services for architecture and interior design with The Buchan Group as concept designers for the mall interiors.
Medan Center Point comprises of four (4) buildings, a 13-storey hotel and three (3) 20-storey apartment buildings – all four towers sit on a retail podium of 7 floors. It has a total gross floor area of 270,000 sqm on a site area of about 8 hectares.
The building is oriented towards Jl. Jawa, where the primary entry point to the building is situated and treatment of the façade is highlighted. The façade consists of three (3) distinct parts- a translucent light box with the “Ulos Batak†pattern, a vertical wave and a glowing oval.
Medan Centre Point is built on the concept of the “axis†where all come together. This is illustrated in the combination of mixed uses and the interplay of modern and indigenous elements in its facade that is playful and whimsical at the podium and simple and elegant on the towers. It will be a major destination in Medan, just a few months away from its scheduled opening in mid-2013.
